The Graduate Certificate in Theology (GradCertTh) is a short, flexible entry point into graduate-level theological study for those who already hold an undergraduate qualification. It is an ideal way to test the waters of theology, refresh your thinking, or begin a pathway toward a fuller graduate qualification.
It brings your vocational expertise and life experience into dialogue with critical, faithful reflection on the Christian faith — helping you deepen your theological understanding and discover the connections between theology and the wider world, the church, and mission contexts.
How it is made up
The GradCertTh is a 60-credit qualification: a maximum of 15 credits at level 5 or 6, and 45 credits at level 7, drawn from the Theology curriculum. For students in this programme, course pre-requisite and co-requisite regulations may be waived, and elective courses are selected from the BTh course schedule.
Study your way
Study on campus in Henderson or Christchurch, or by Distance Learning — full-time or part-time, with flexible learning options.
A pathway, not a dead end
Credits earned in the Graduate Certificate can often be credited toward further study:
- Graduate Diploma in Theology
- Postgraduate study at Laidlaw
- Other theology programmes
