Entry requirements vary from one programme to the next. As a guide, applicants who can show evidence of equivalent knowledge and skills may apply for open entry. If you are unsure whether you qualify, talk to our team — we are glad to help you find the right starting point.
English language requirements
Where English is not your first language, you will generally need IELTS (Academic) 6.0 or higher, with a minimum of 6.0 in every band for bachelor's-level study such as the Bachelor of Theology. Equivalent recognised tests may also be accepted. International students can find more detail on our internationals page.
Diploma in Christian Studies (Level 5)
The Diploma in Christian Studies is an open-entry pathway, designed as an accessible first step into theological study. Applicants who show evidence of equivalent knowledge and skills are welcome to apply.
Certificate in Christian Ministry — Internship
The Certificate in Christian Ministry (Internship) combines study with supervised ministry placement. Entry is based on readiness for ministry formation alongside academic study; contact us to discuss your situation and placement.
Graduate & Postgraduate Theology (GradDipTh, PGDipTh, MTh)
The normal requirement for admission into the Graduate Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Theology is a completed undergraduate degree (or higher qualification).
Master of Theology & PGDipTh
Applicants who hold a recognised bachelor's-level degree in a discipline other than theology may be accepted following successful completion of a bridging programme of theological study. A grade average of 7.0 (B) or higher in papers equivalent to NZQA levels 6 and 7 is normally required.

For teacher education programmes, applicants normally need an appropriate bachelor's degree at Level 7 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework and/or a postgraduate qualification, and a body of knowledge from Levels 5 to 7 (or higher) supporting New Zealand Curriculum learning areas — for at least one Year 7–10 teaching subject and at least one Year 11–13 teaching subject.
